If your child has just started secondary school, both they and you may be surprised at just how much homework they are getting! It’s always a shock going from the carefree days of primary school to the responsible and more grown-up world of secondary school. No more playing with dolls or cars when they get back home – they have at least an hour’s worth of homework to do every evening!

Since they are going to be spending much more time in their rooms studying, perhaps now is the time to think about children’s study furniture? It would make their lives much easier if they had a proper desk to sit at rather than on the floor or sitting against the bed and it might even make them less reluctant to get some studying done!

There are a whole range of children’s desks on the market, so which do you choose? There are one or two things you should be looking out for when choosing the right desk for your child:

* Wooden desks are great for large bedrooms and are an attractive option. Many of them come with drawers, shelves and attached pinboards which are great for storage and keeping everything in one place!
* Workstations are more practical for smaller rooms and pc-mad children. Most have a pullout keyboard shelf that saves space and because they can be lightweight most come with castors allowing for full mobility.
* Traditional school desks are lovely for small children and also ideal for home-schooling! Traditional children’s furniture like this is making a bit of a comeback so this is one item of furniture worth getting and hanging onto.
* Large workstations may be more costly, but when you are buying for older children you are also thinking about purchasing pieces they can take them with them or be re-used in the home. A large workstation is great for study rooms and once they do leave home, you’ll be fighting them for it!

Children’s desks needn’t be boring, there are many examples of brightly coloured and stylish desks on the market at stores such as John Lewis and Amazon. Young children especially will be happier working at a bright and cheerful desk that reflects their own personalities.

If you have children, a kid’s desk can become the center of their working and learning universe. Their own space would encourage them to work without supervision and keep them focused on the tasks at hand.

Working at the kitchen table or in the family room poses many distractions. Concentration is lost when the television is on. When the phone rings, their focus is interrupted by their curiosity as to who is calling. Something as simple as preparing dinner can be a challenge for children who are in need of improving their study habits.

A kid’s desk will provide a work area that will minimize family distractions. Information learned is information retained and homework is completed within the appropriate time frame.

What tools are needed to make a kid’s desk successful as a study area? First of all you would have to purchase a kid’s desk; they come in many types, from wood, steel to plastic. Chairs also are available and come in wood, steel or plastic; most of the time they are included with the purchase of a desk.

Your child’s workstation should include pencils, pens, erasers, and paper as well as their school books. Art supplies could include poster paint, chalk, glue and a roll of easel paper. These can be kept on hand for use on those rainy days.

Children, who have their own desk, develop good study habits at a young age. Good study habits developed at a young age will carry them through their entire school years.

As a parent, you will need to decide how much you are willing to help your child with their homework and when they should start their homework. You may want to set aside time to help your child with their homework. This is usually done in the evening when everyone is home from their daily routine. Of course, you don’t want to complete your child’s entire homework, but you can offer helpful suggestions when needed.

Depending on the space available will determine how large your kid’s desk will be. Some come as a fold up desk which takes less room than a regular desk and requires less space. Some desks have attached chairs.

A desk for your child can be purchased when your child is a toddler and then replaced as your child grows to accommodate size and increased learning. Initially you could buy a plastic desk and then later on a desk more suitable to your child’s age. These desks are usually made out of solid oak or particle board.

A teenager might want to include a pull out tray for a keyboard and a desk area large enough to accommodate a computer or laptop. Storage compartments for books are an added bonus to keep the work area from becoming cluttered.

There are so many kid’s desk available on the market. Depending on the decor of your home and the age of your child will be the determining factor when searching out for that unique kid’s desk.

Some considerations when shopping for a children’s desk are the type of use and how many children will be using the desk.

When you are shopping for children’s desks, you will want to consider the different types of desks that are available. Some options that fold up an take up less room than the traditional or standard desk. There are also kids desks that have attached chairs to the desks and are more compact. Additionally, you can find traditional versions that are like miniature adults desks.

One unique aspect about student desks are that they come in a variety of colors and can even incorporate characters into the desk. Pricier options made out of solid oak or other fine woods are also available. More affordable options include plastic and particle board desks. Kids desks can look clean and modern, mimicking adult desks or function as whimsical or fun.

When shopping, keep in mind a few important factors to reach your decision. First, keep in mind the spacing available in the house and your childs age. For toddlers you will want to make sure that the desk is solid and sturdy. For older children you want to make sure that things are solid enough for use but it is also flexible enough to meet their needs. For example, a pre-teen might want a keyboard roll out tray to play computer games or a storage compartment for school books.

Remembering your needs first will really help you to have success in finding a desk for your children that you will be happy with. Be sure and look for a high quality piece if you are wanting to pass it down through your children and you have more than one child.

Do you want a small corner in the house to call your own? A small corner desk is an ideal solution. Not only does it take minimum space but it is very personal and practical too. It is a place where you can retire for your reading, work and leisure.

Charm of a Small Corner Desk

Here you can work undistracted and retire whenever you require, and the rest of the room is left free for use by other people. Also with minimum space, you can get maximum pleasure.

The reason is that no one wants to walk into a corner and disturb you. Since other people would not have any business on your side, you will be able to relax better. Ideally, the small corner desk is perfect in the living room or the bedroom of a small apartment. It saves a lot of floor space.

Options for the Small Corner Desk

You can look at different styles. Most people opt for the narrow and long desk style. With a plethora of designs available, you can get desks from different stores. However, some designs are much more popular compared to the other.

Funky Corner Desk

For a funky look, you can opt for a dresser or antique sideboard to use as the desk. If you do not require a storage area then you can use any flat surface for the desk. This will allow you to enjoy restoring old furniture or indulging in interior decorating.

Corner Desks to Free Up Floor Space

Another option is to go for an L shaped desk. Here you can use one side for your workstation and computer. The other side can have papers, writing materials and office supplies. This is a very convenient workstation. Around two different activities can be managed easily in isolation. However, this is ideal for a corner that has more floor space.

Built-In Corner Desk

A third option comes with a desk that can simply slide into a corner. This is a triangular desk which leaves you facing one of the corners. This gives you a large workstation. With tripod, legs to stand on it won’t take much floor space. Even though the space is wasted on the corner side, you can use them effectively in a small room. With additional shelving on top, they become exceptionally practical.

So, these are some great designs for corner desks. However, it is a very exciting task to search for new furniture. The perfect reward is finding one that suits your working needs and taste. With so many ideas to look at you can surely find one that suits your needs.

Almost every home in America has a computer, and along with the computer a computer desk. One style of modern desk that has gained in popularity with computers is the corner desk. The main advantage to the corner desk that has contributed to its popularity is their space saving design. There are not that many pieces of furniture available that allows such ideal use of a place in the home which is often considered “dead space”. A corner desk will fit nicely into that space, and that may be it, or if you have more room, you can have an extension coming off of one or both sides of the corner unit.

For quite a while, the space saving functionality was the main thing going for the corner desk. Along with that functionality, for the most part, the corner desk just looked functional. Not a whole lot of style was involved. But lately the market has been changing. There are some corner desks available that are also really nice looking pieces of furniture. Let’s take a look at a couple of companies that have gone the extra mile in design as well as function.

The first company that I came across whose corner desks really jumped out at me as to being nice and stylish is Home Styles Furniture. Home Styles has been around since 1998, and their goal has been to produce Ready-to-Assemble furniture that merges high functionality with great looking designs. Their styling is both traditional and contemporary, so there is something to suit most any taste. Besides looking good, Home Styles say that their furniture offers “innovative functionality” because they strive to find innovative storage options and furniture configurations. They also use hardwood in their construction and high quality hardware so that their furniture lasts for years.

One of their great styles is the laptop desk. This desk can sit in the corner, posing as an occasional table, allowing it to fit into any room. But the height of the desk and the configuration of the legs is designed so that a chair can be pulled up and the surface used comfortably while working on your laptop. The laptop desk comes in slightly different styles and finishes to suit a variety of tastes.

Southern Enterprises, Inc (SEI) is not an actual manufacturer, but an importer. They have been around for over 30 years, and in that time they have perfected the art of finding the types of home furnishings that people want and then offering them to the public. To keep on top of the industry, their market research is continuous, allowing them to keep track of the minute changes in their customer’s design tastes.

Southern Enterprises, Inc basic corner desk is similar to Home Styles, but a bit larger, it is designed to fit a regular desk top computer. It has the cord cut out toward the back, and what looks like a drawer in the front is a fold down, retractable keyboard tray. Various designs and finishes are also available.

What I really liked best about both of these companies and their offering of corner desks, is that none of their pieces looked like traditional RTA office furniture that you would find at a discount store. But these were really stylish, nice looking pieces of furniture, a corner desk that could fit right in a modern living room.
